Rishi Nandi Joins Sasaki to Lead Science and Technology Practice

Rishi Nandi, AIA, LEED AP, has joined Sasaki as an associate principal in architecture to lead the firm’s science and technology practice. With over 20 years of experience, Nandi brings a wealth of knowledge in conducting research space planning for academic institutions and creating built work for institutional and commercial clients. His expertise in science and technology spans across the commercial and academic sectors, from planning to implementation.

Nandi’s approach to design focuses on creating highly technical spaces that meet stakeholder needs, facilitate research, and provide a positive working environment. He has extensive experience in complex technical buildings and understands how they fit into the larger context of a campus.

In addition to his project expertise, Nandi also takes into consideration the holistic needs of clients. He considers factors such as regulatory climate, deferred maintenance, financial risk exposure, workplace amenities, and long-term operational needs to ensure that research facilities are integrated comfortably into the communities they serve. Nandi is also committed to minimizing the environmental impact of intensive research facilities.

Throughout his career, Nandi has worked on projects for esteemed institutions such as Harvard University, MIT, and Northeastern University. He has also conducted planning studies for Syracuse, Columbia, and Northeastern Universities, as well as designed commercial laboratories for clients including MITIMCo and BXP.

Nandi’s choice to join Sasaki was influenced by the firm’s culture of research and deep institutional knowledge. He believes that this positions the firm uniquely to address the complex issues faced by clients in the science and technology industry. Nandi will lead Sasaki’s science and technology practice, working across the entire project lifecycle from space utilization and optimization to programming and conceptual analysis, as well as building and interior design. He will collaborate with Sasaki’s integrated design teams and work alongside the data science team to develop proprietary design tools for research environments.

Elizabeth von Goeler, principal interior designer at Sasaki, expressed her delight at Nandi’s arrival, emphasizing his whole-lifecycle understanding of science buildings and his ability to address stakeholder needs effectively.
