New Remodeled Farmhouse Among Homes on AIA Minnesota Homes by Architects Tour

A notable exception on the upcoming AIA Minnesota Homes by Architects tour is a remodeled farmhouse in Richfield. The former farmhouse, dating back to the 1930s, has undergone a recent remodel and addition to meet the needs of the clients. The project included doubling the size of the kitchen, improving the main level layout, adding a guest room and a bathroom, and creating access to a new deck.

The owner of ERE Architecture, Edward Eichten, said that the remodel catered to the clients’ desire to host large gatherings. One unique feature of the remodel is the installation of a dumbwaiter, allowing for the easy movement of supplies from the lower level to the kitchen. The dumbwaiter was a specific request from the clients and is not commonly found in modern homes.

The 16th annual AIA Minnesota Homes by Architects event will showcase the residential design talents of local architects. The event will feature ten homes available for in-person tours and four homes available for virtual tours. Architects will be present in the homes they designed to answer questions from the public and provide insight into the design process.

Sustainability and energy efficiency are common themes of this year’s tour. The remodeled farmhouse in Richfield boasts a green roof, native plant landscaping, and other eco-friendly features. The event aims to inspire and educate attendees rather than sell homes. AIA Minnesota hopes that visitors will gain ideas for their own homes through the tour and conversations with architects and designers.

The Homes by Architects tour provides an opportunity for architects to physically share their work with the public, rather than solely relying on photographs or videos. The event is made possible with the support of various sponsors and tickets are available for purchase online or onsite.
